I studied English with my friends. In our workshop, we usually read an article from several English newspapers, but today, after chatting in English as usual, we watched one of my favorite films, "Notting Hill." I thought watching a movie would be an interesting way to improve our listening comprehension skills.

'I'd better be going."
"Tempting, but, no (thank you)."
"I'm just looking around."
"I'm also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her."

I've learned so many English expressions from this movie.

No title

It's interesting that the Japanese version of the title includes 恋人...

Sometimes we translate that into English as "sweetheart" or "sweethearts", and here in the US Julia Roberts has the nickname, "America's Sweetheart". ^_^

Another diversion...

Sorry to keep inundating you with various off-topic links to check out, but have you ever seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog? It's a musical about a competition for fame between a supervillian and a superhero, as well as their mutual desire for the heart of a woman they both know. It's told from the perspective of Dr. Horrible (obviously, the villian, with a name like that! ^_^), who is making a series of video blog entries, or vlogs, about his life.

I thought of you when I saw it because of your interest in Heroes, English, and movies. Well, it's not really a movie... but it almost feels like one! I think it's about 45 minutes long or so, and it's very professionally done. The English is probably pretty challenging due to all the wordplay, but I think you'll enjoy it anyway once the singing starts, that is if you're into musicals at all.

You can check it out here if you'd like:

I think the website will let you watch it from Japan. If not, I'm sorry for wasting your time...
