To make a start
I'm a Japanese and also a mother of two. I've been studying English for almost 10 years. I love English. It may sound odd, but English sounds like a music to me.
When I was a single, I had a lot of time just for myself. I could have studied English, but I didn't. To be exact, I had no interest in learning a second language. I loved travelling abroad and visited several countries, but I could do without English. "I live in Japan. Do I really have to study English for my life?" I was a bit skeptical.
I knew some words and expressions, and they were good enough. I used to study English in school for 6 years and I did well. I had trouble communicting with people, though. Actually, when I stayed in Canada for a week, I missed my dinner because of my poor speaking ability...
I didn't expect that things have changed. Now, I love learning English. What made me have interest? A movie.
"I'd like to enjoy English films without Japanese subtitles."
The day I saw "Titanic," I fell in love with English.
I've been teaching myself, because I can't afford to attend any language schools. That's why I tend to lose my confidence and sometimes I feel down about my effort. I'd really appreciate it if you are interested in this blog and give me a word of advice.
Thank you for reading my writing and sharing your time for it.

I'm just curious about which movie had made your life changed.

Thank you for your comment! It surely is the first one! I'm a bit hesitate to speak out, but it was Titanic. I was a big fan of Kate Winslet, that's why I went to see. After seeing the film, I happened to know that there was a limit of translation because of the number of the words. I just wanted to know the original lines in a film, and that was the reason I started to study.

Hi Emi,
Reading through your various entries so far, I can't get over how smooth, natural and engaging your writing is. Except for a few small clues, it would be easy to forget you're not a native speaker. You've really done well in your studies.
If you don't mind me asking, do you also practice speaking English? I've found that the best writers are often those who spend a lot of time speaking the language they're writing, even if it's just something simple like repeating sentences aloud to themselves.

Oh, you're so kind! I'm always nervous about my English ability, so your words have surely given me a hope! Yes, I try to find some time to practice speaking English. Actually, I set up an English workshop for mothers who are eager to study English 4 years ago. We have been enjoying our 2-hour-free-talking time with a native speaker. However, my opportunity for speaking is just twice a month. So, whenever I can grab some time, I speak to myself in English. ;)
Thank you for visiting my blog, Michael! I really appreciate it if you help me write appropriate English writing from now on!
