Maple leaves in May

Have you had a chance to feel nature recently? If you haven't, you should try it. It was a beautiful sunny day today, so we went on a picnic. I watched my husband and our son playing catch, and took a stroll with my daughter. What a pleasant way to spend our time! There was nothing to worry about. There was us, sunshine and the breeze.... When I looked up, I found green maple leaves in the incredibly blue sky.
What for?
We are Japanese and we live in Japan. Our husbands only speak Japanese and won't be relocated to any other country. So, why are we studying English? What for?
Actually, I've been asked this question so many times. In our daily lives, it's quite obvious that English isn't a must. In fact, here in Japan, we don't need to deal with English at all. We can buy anything, we can go anywhere and we can ask anyone for advice without using English. Isn't it a bit meaningless to be into English?
I'd say I don't know how to answer that. I'm not sure exactly why I've been keeping at it. However, I feel that English has helped me expand my horizons. To me, English sounds like music. It's like a puzzle. I can't explain how I feel, but one thing is sure, this love affair will last a lifetime.
Prince Caspian
I'm a movie goer and I never miss the chance to see the latest blockbusters! Whenever I go to a movie, I always carry a notebook for writing down some lines I can follow. Here is one I managed to catch.

How do you know so much about Narnia?
Ah, I'd like to use this kind of English phrase without TRYING to say! Well, for now, I'll have to keep it in mind in order to speak English naturally.
Speaking of this film, I didn't expect any romance in it at all, but it turned out it had! On top of that, the actor playing the part of Prince Caspian was truly good-looking, so some people would call this movie a "chick flick." Well, I don't mind..
To make a start
I'm a Japanese and also a mother of two. I've been studying English for almost 10 years. I love English. It may sound odd, but English sounds like a music to me.
When I was a single, I had a lot of time just for myself. I could have studied English, but I didn't. To be exact, I had no interest in learning a second language. I loved travelling abroad and visited several countries, but I could do without English. "I live in Japan. Do I really have to study English for my life?" I was a bit skeptical.
I knew some words and expressions, and they were good enough. I used to study English in school for 6 years and I did well. I had trouble communicting with people, though. Actually, when I stayed in Canada for a week, I missed my dinner because of my poor speaking ability...
I didn't expect that things have changed. Now, I love learning English. What made me have interest? A movie.
"I'd like to enjoy English films without Japanese subtitles."
The day I saw "Titanic," I fell in love with English.
I've been teaching myself, because I can't afford to attend any language schools. That's why I tend to lose my confidence and sometimes I feel down about my effort. I'd really appreciate it if you are interested in this blog and give me a word of advice.
Thank you for reading my writing and sharing your time for it.
